Drake Applauds Eminem, Lil Wayne & Jay-Z’s Fans

Drake knows a thing or two about having a loyal fanbase: His following propelled him to a #1 album in June with Thank Me Later. But when it comes to the SoundScan charts, 2010 has belonged to Marshall Mathers. Eminem’s Recovery is #1 for the fifth straight week and looks to be an unbeatable monster right now — he’s close to 2 million copies sold. Drake expects his good friend Lil Wayne to have that same success when he’s released from prison and resumes his career. Much like Eminem and Jay-Z, Drizzy asserts, Weezy has a core that has unconditional love for him.

“I think it’s so rare that an artist comes along in our generation that has a loyal following no matter what — I think Eminem has it,” Drake explained last week on the Atlanta set of his “Fancy” video. “I think Jay-Z has it, although he’s never faltered enough to test it. Jay is almost like the perfect guy. Media-wise, there’s never been a true test of your fans staying with you. Eminem has had gone through a couple of ups and downs and his fans were with him no matter what.

“I think Wayne is that guy,” he continued. “I know Wayne is the next guy, after the two I just named, that has that unconditional, no matter what. You get caught with this and you go to jail. You make little life errors that people should never find out about, but because we’re in the public eye, everyone knows everything. Wayne has those fans.”

Drake told Mixtape Daily that during a recent call, Wayne rapped some verses from Tha Carter IV over the phone — and the world better watch out!

Drake: ‘Fans reciting lyrics turn me on’

Drake has revealed that it “turns him on” when women remember the lyrics to his songs.

In an interview with Tim Westwood TV, the rapper said that he was “single” and has a great admiration for women.

I’m actually single. I’m single worldwide. Everywhere, all area codes, everything… I really love women a lot man, even when I’m rapping, I just like women to hear what I’m saying. I’m talking to the world [when I rap], but I like when women come up to me and repeat my lyrics to me, not my hooks,

I love when they come up and say, ‘That’s my favorite line’, or ‘I love when you said this, it made me feel sexy’. Even if it’s not a straight women’s line, it’s just the fact that they’re listening to what I’m saying. That gets me excited, it turns me on a little bit. Whoa. Love, love, love, love London women.

AT&T Presents The Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour featuring Drake

The Canadian rapper has announced dates for a fall tour. “AT&T Presents The Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour” is scheduled to kick off on September 21 in Miami and travel to major cities, winding down November 4 in Los Angeles. Virginia duo Clipse will serve as the supporting act on the Live Nation production.

Drake’s Thank Me Later Goes Platinum

A little over a month since its release, Drake’s Thank Me Later has officially gone platinum. As previously reported Thank Me Later went platinum in Canada its first week with over 100,000 units sold, but failed to reach Gold status in the U.S. after moving over 400,000 units. Now Drizzy can add his U.S. platinum plaque to the one he already acquired in Canada and announced his platinum status to fans saying,

Thank you to everyone who allowed us go platinum on a debut album. WOW

It might not of been in the first week like some folks thought would happen; but Drake’s debut album has surpassed the 1million mark. Congratulations.

OVO Festival Launched By Drake In Toronto

Drake will conclude his “Away From Home” tour by launching his very own festival — the first annual OVO Festival, taking place in his hometown of Toronto on Aug. 1 in association with Blackberry.

The daylong event will feature a headlining set by the rapper as well as Francis & the Lights, Young Jeezy and Bun B, with additional artists to be announced. Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre will be the host venue for the fest, which also coincides with the 43rd annual Caribana Toronto Festival, a two-week celebration of Caribbean culture in the Canadian city.

“I truly believe this is entertainment at a level that the city has never seen before,” Drake said in a statement. “I’m hoping that it is a safe and magical night and that OVO Festival becomes tradition every year.”

The OVO Festival was created by Drake‘s own entertainment company, October’s Very Own, alongside longtime collaborators Oliver El-Khatib and Noah “40″ Shebib. Tickets range from $25.75 CDN – $93.75 CDN and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.

‘Good Morning America’ Pulls Plug On Drake’s Free Central Park Concert

It’s over – before it even happened.

The plug has been pulled on another free outdoor concert featuring Drake in New York City before the superstar rapper even stepped off the tour bus, the Daily News has learned.

ABC decided not to book the 23-year-old Canadian rapper for a July 16 show in Central Park after the NYPD told the city Parks Department that Parks’ security plan wasn’t up to snuff, Parks and police sources said.

The concert was going to be part of ABC’s “Good Morning America” summer concert series, which has already featured megastars Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Alicia Keys.

We were interested in having Drake perform, but he was never officially booked,” an ABC spokesperson said yesterday without elaborating.

A spokesperson for Drake confirmed there was a “booking in place,” but declined to comment further.

The Parks Department could not come up with the security staffing that the NYPD thought would be necessary for such an event, police sources said.

This is the second time a New York show featuring the “Find Your Love” rapper has been called off in less than a month.

Drake’s June 15 free concert at South Street Seaport was abruptly canceled after 25,000 unruly fans who showed up to hear the rap phenom tossed chairs, bottles and flowerpots.

Drake postpones European tour to be with his sick mom‎

Drake is postponing his European tour to stay home and tend to his mom, who’s undergoing surgery.
According to a statement, the rapper says,

Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated. In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel my European tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.

The shows in London, Paris, and Amsterdam will be rescheduled for November 2010 (where ideally they will not cause any riots); festival dates are flat-out cancelled. Bummer for you Euros, but we wish Drake’s mom all the best, and hope you’ll join us in a hearty “Awwww…”
