Drake knows a thing or two about having a loyal fanbase: His following propelled him to a #1 album in June with Thank Me Later. But when it comes to the SoundScan charts, 2010 has belonged to Marshall Mathers. Eminem’s Recovery is #1 for the fifth straight week and looks to be an unbeatable monster right now — he’s close to 2 million copies sold. Drake expects his good friend Lil Wayne to have that same success when he’s released from prison and resumes his career. Much like Eminem and Jay-Z, Drizzy asserts, Weezy has a core that has unconditional love for him. [Read more →]

Drake revealed to MTV on the set of his video “Fancy” that Lil Wayne called him from jail to give him a sneak preview of verses from the forthcoming Carter IV album.

He called me the other day from jail and rapped me two verses, man,” Drake said. “It really made me, like, ‘I gotta do something different. I gotta get sh– together,’ because he’s really got bars and he’s rapping from a broader life perspective, saying these things people love to hear.

Drake also revealed that, although he wasn’t aware of the title of Weezy’s September EP I’m Not A Human Being at the time, he’s definitively a featured guest.

Drake has revealed that it “turns him on” when women remember the lyrics to his songs.

In an interview with Tim Westwood TV, the rapper said that he was “single” and has a great admiration for women.

I’m actually single. I’m single worldwide. Everywhere, all area codes, everything… I really love women a lot man, even when I’m rapping, I just like women to hear what I’m saying. I’m talking to the world [when I rap], but I like when women come up to me and repeat my lyrics to me, not my hooks,

I love when they come up and say, ‘That’s my favorite line’, or ‘I love when you said this, it made me feel sexy’. Even if it’s not a straight women’s line, it’s just the fact that they’re listening to what I’m saying. That gets me excited, it turns me on a little bit. Whoa. Love, love, love, love London women.

Drake recently said that he wants the video for his single ‘Fancy’ to make women feel special

A little over a month since its release, Drake’s Thank Me Later has officially gone platinum. As previously reported Thank Me Later went platinum in Canada its first week with over 100,000 units sold, but failed to reach Gold status in the U.S. after moving over 400,000 units. Now Drizzy can add his U.S. platinum plaque to the one he already acquired in Canada and announced his platinum status to fans saying,

Thank you to everyone who allowed us go platinum on a debut album. WOW

It might not of been in the first week like some folks thought would happen; but Drake’s debut album has surpassed the 1million mark. Congratulations.

Drake had nothing but good things to say about J. Cole. MTV was picking 2010′s hottest breakthrough rappers, and in that line-up Nicki Minaj was also include. J. Cole took the victory and Drake went ahead and spoke on this.

When J. Cole made his New York City debut at S.O.B.’s in March, the North Carolina MC was greeted not only with a warm response from a sell-out crowd, he received an endorsement from one of the most respected lyricists in the game. After Talib Kweli joined the rising rapper onstage for a rendition of the hit “Get By” — Cole revamps Kweli’s song on his acclaimed ’09 mixtape The Warm Up — the Brooklyn MC dubbed the young star “the future of hip-hop.”

That’s just an example of the type of love the Fayetteville rapper and top-five finalist for the title of “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010″ has been getting from hip-hop’s best and brightest. After turning heads with The Come Up tape, Cole became the first artist to sign to the Jay-Z-helmed Roc Nation, jumping on a track from Hov’s The Blueprint 3, a landmark feat for a rookie MC. Video after the jump.

Another hip-hop O.G. who’s been impressed by Cole is Bun B, who said he’s anticipating the upstart lyricist’s first LP. “I’m really curious to see what his debut is gonna sound like because he’s making some real strong music right now,” Bun B recently told MTV News. “[His single] ‘Who Dat’ is really killing it and the boy can write.” [Read more →]

Drake will conclude his “Away From Home” tour by launching his very own festival — the first annual OVO Festival, taking place in his hometown of Toronto on Aug. 1 in association with Blackberry.

The daylong event will feature a headlining set by the rapper as well as Francis & the Lights, Young Jeezy and Bun B, with additional artists to be announced. Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre will be the host venue for the fest, which also coincides with the 43rd annual Caribana Toronto Festival, a two-week celebration of Caribbean culture in the Canadian city.

“I truly believe this is entertainment at a level that the city has never seen before,” Drake said in a statement. “I’m hoping that it is a safe and magical night and that OVO Festival becomes tradition every year.”

The OVO Festival was created by Drake‘s own entertainment company, October’s Very Own, alongside longtime collaborators Oliver El-Khatib and Noah “40″ Shebib. Tickets range from $25.75 CDN – $93.75 CDN and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.

Drake’s upcoming “Fancy” video features a couple of stars known for cranking out hard-hitting hip-hop, but this time, the Toronto MC enlisted T.I. and Swizz Beatz to craft a sexy ode to the ladies.

“It’s a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest that there are out there to be noticed,” T.I. told MTV News on the set of the sleek clip, which reflects the song’s sultry vibe. The video features Drizzy, Tip and Swizz in all-black everything, spitting suave lyrics and flanked by leggy dancers in formfitting bodysuits. [Read more →]
